Inspired by openPDS, we suggest a novel architecture for recommender systems that overcomes the two limitations mentioned above.

The Open Personal Data Store (openPDS) architecture was recently suggested for storing personal data in a privacy preserving way. Existing recommender systems exhibit two major limitations: (1) Privacy - each service provider holds a database that contains information about all of its users and (2) Partial view - when recommending to users, each such service can rely only on data that were collected by the service itself. Recommender systems have become extremely common in recent years, and are applied in a variety of domains. We also found that users tend to disagree mostly on subjective tags, such as "good acting", "bad plot" or "quotable" and less on objective tags, such as "animation", "cars" or "wedding", but the disagreement of users regarding objective tags is also moderate. We found a moderate inconsistency of user relevance scores. In particular, we define the tag relevance prediction problem, explore the inconsistency of relevance scores provided by users as a challenge of this problem and present a method, which outperforms the state-of-the-art method for predicting tag relevance. In this paper, we explore the dataset from a different study, where the authors collected relevance scores on movie-tag pairs. This process can be improved with machine learning methods that predict tag relevance. Retrieving these data is a very demanding process, as it requires users to explicitly indicate the degree to which a tag applies to an item.

For example, this relevance score could indicate how violent the movie "The Godfather" is on a scale from 0 to 1. However, these systems often require rich item descriptions that contain relevance scores indicating the strength, with which a tag applies to an item. Critiquing recommender systems allow users to provide immediate feedback to recommendations with tags and receive a new set of recommendations in response. These recommendations are usually based on user preferences for items and are usually generated with a delay. Traditionally, recommender systems provide a list of suggestions to a user based on past interactions with items of this user. We believe this work showcases how network science can be used to understand the evolution of important components of society. Finally, we measure how the impact of movies correlates with the experts’ and the public’s assessment to understand the conditions for success and further development. We also identify the impactful movies that were harbingers to popular memes that dominate a given period of time and from which certain genres form and grow. In this work we use network science and computational social science-inspired methods to analyze a large-scale data set of movies focusing on how they have changed and evolved over time using a comprehensive movie-meme association data to construct the network of movies that form the timeline of the history of cinema via the evolution of genres, and the rise and fall of prominent sub-genres. This is Tarantino's second film, and when it appeared at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992, it garnered much critical acclaim and made the director an instant legend. Rather, the violence is used to develop the personalities of each character. Even though this is one of the most violent films ever made, neither the violence nor the criminal lifestyle is glorified. But when the police arrive before the gang can make their getaway, they all suspect that one of them is an informant. Written and directed by Tarantino, this unusual crime drama tells the story of a gang of thieves who carry out a jewel heist.
